Overview

Overview

A School Environmental Management Plan (SEMP) can be integrated with the whole school planning process as the two plans may focus on the same strategies and describe similar actions and outcomes.  As an integrated document, achievements for the school environment are achievements for the whole school plan and for student learning.  Some Sustainable Schools now successfully describe their SEMP as part of the whole school plan.  Read about their processes.

Promoting whole school planning

As schools implement their SEMP, the benefits of integrating it with their overall school plan become more obvious.  Through integration, school development and student learning outcomes can be directly related to elements of the SEMP e.g. a 'Project to develop an Outdoor Classroom' or literacy skills development through 'Our School Environment' presentations in class or to council.
